I wanted to write a song in an odd time signature; one that captures the feeling of hope and tension, and resolves to a crashing crescendo. I had the image of sending floating candles out into the ocean, who were fleeing the crazy and clumsy moths of the shoreline to learn from the stars, or flowers that got tired of living on land, the feeling of a mother releasing her child to the unknown, or of striving for love. I wanted to capture the feeling of desperate trust, and conversely the feeling of reckless abandon also. Essentially I wanted to capture the feeling of putting all your eggs in one basket, and floating it out to sea.
