The Honeybrew is a project that explores the freedom of improvisational music, with catchy tunes and soulful delivery. The voice sounds somewhere between Jeff Buckley and Ray Charles, and the music pulls from various musical genres and time signatures using colorful yet subtle language and melodic ideas. Kyle Swan and the Honeybrew's raw, sophisticated sound has teamed up with Robben Ford, Karl Hunter, Jacob Scesney and others in recording their first two studio albums entitled "Propolis" and "Royal Jelly" in 2014. Kyle Swan writes the material and performs it on guitar, keys and vocals, while bassist Scott Hughes does the backing vocals with a haunting operatic tone, and an upright bass. Scott Belsha is on the drums, and additional horn players Ruben Salinas, and Evan Mackey play hornlines, pads, and hits. Additional players, Mario Calire, drummer for the band Ozomatli, and the Wallflowers, and bassist Kevin McCormick (toured with David Crosby) whos musical achievements are too vast to be listed here, also did some recording on the first album "PROPOLIS" along with Bernie Larsen, owner of Spinout Records where the album was recorded. The photo shown above is a close up of the cover art of "Royal Jelly" painted by Eric Seyster. You can find more of his brilliant visual art HERE.
Below is a cover tune by the band "Morphine" that we recorded in addition to the otherwise original material for Kyle Swan and the Honeybrew's first album entitled "PROPOLIS". Karl Hunter of the "Big Bad Voodoo Daddy" came in later and laid a truly amazing sax solo on this tune after we made the video of this vocal track being recorded. Karl played on a few other tracks on that album, also joined by guitar legend Robben Ford. You can hear it very soon! Recorded at Spinout Studio by Bernie Larsen.
