I wrote this gypsy jazz/tango instrumentally on new years day 2012. A year later almost to the day, I wrote the words. They were inspired by the season-patterns of life, of cycles, repetition, and the reaching to grasp on, maintain, or just to spin round the ole' carousel. 2012 was a year of projected prophetic doom with the mayan y2k scare and all...
When it drops into the fast gypsy swing, the merry go round-destructive aspect is emphasized through a running-in-circles of the upright bass (Scott Hughes) and soloing gypsy guitar in the style of Django Reinhardt, with disruptive drum patterns in a call and response musical sparring match. All of this, if not enough, then followed by a blood-curdling scream, and a return to the beginning tango cycle at the end.

Long drive
into the sun
in roots of the apple tree
blood runs
under the moon
under the moon
long drive
short sight
runs in the dark
the leaves of the apple tree
break like
under the moon
under the moon
long drive
